With the holidays over, possessions packed and minds alert for learning, students are heading off to university. Many will be returning to an already familiar environment, but for freshers, the first week at college really is a step into the unknown. The following advice is to help new undergraduates get off to a flying start at university:1)Make sure that you have explored all the funding options available:1.Check out any special bursaries and grants offered by the university or college itself.2.Apply for your student loan early in the term and put the money in a savings account to earn interest until you need it. Budget carefully – withdraw funds from your loan in monthly amounts, to make it last.3.Good sources of advice, especially about loans, are the student union at your university as well as the DfES.2)Estimate now what your likely expenses will be. For example, find out the average cost for accommodation. Make sure the rent – one of the biggest expenses – is paid at the beginning of term.3)If you will be sharing a house with other students, check that you have signed a proper lease that protects your rights – most university accommodation offices and student unions can help with finding flats and about understanding the lease.4)Open a bank account before you go to college, to receive loan funds and pay bills such as rent, which need to be paid early in the term.5)Develop a good relationship with your bank – you are likely to need their help throughout all the years of your course.6)Shop for food with friends, making use of special bulk buying offers in supermarkets such as ‘buy on get one free’.7)Get a National Union of Students (NUS) card to allow you to make the most of student discounts and special offers.8)Don’t buy all your books immediately, as many second and third year students will be selling their unwanted books and most universities have a second hand bookshop.9)Your room will have some valuable possessions in it. Don’t leave your door open, even if you are just wandering down the corridor. Check if your belongings are still covered as part of your parents’ home insurance.10)Try not to overspend in freshers week – make sure you budget so that your funds last until the end of term.Remember that going to every event may increase your popularity, but could mean a lot of extra studying later in the year. Finally, don’t forget that everyone will be feeling the same as you – so don’t be shy at getting chatting – it will be the quickest way to make new friends.

Life in the University-大學(xué)生活 Life in the university is not as satisfactory as what we had expected. First of all, we are tightly hound by continual classes, excessive homework and exams; some students complain that we are becoming "exam machines". Secondly, the teaching method is boring; instead of lecturing, some teachers just "read" lessons. Finally, living conditions need to be improved; and food in the dining-hall is far from being attractive and tasteful. In spite of all these adversities we still enjoy our life in the university. During the four-year university study, we can not only acquire a lot of book learning, but also foster various abilities. All types of extracurricular activities such as sports meets, speech contests, different social gatherings and dancing parties provide opportunities to make friends; many of these friendships may last a long time. In short,we should value our life in the university. Four years is only a short period when compared with our whole lifetime. In the university we mature, and in the university we prepare ourselves for the real world. Although there are many things lacking, the four years in the university is a worthwhile period in our whole lifetime. My College---My New Life New life begins! I've been expecting this moment for a long time. Finally,I become a college student . All good things must come to an end ! I am now apart from my family members and many good friends.I am awared that I will have to do everything on my own . Being responsible is the exact thing that I am supposed to think about! I'm now dealing something responsibly with my new rommates.I enjoy being together with them, they just like my good friends in high school, being kind and thoughtful ! My college is a place for a new beginning ,I'm sure I'm taking a new life ,everything here is full of challenge, quite different from things in high school, teachers are not going to tell you exactly what you are going to do ,you will have to make your own decisions. So far,I'm geting along so well with people aroud me ,college provides me with chances and challenge,I'm going to make a difference to my life! And I have every confidence on myself.I will still have to move on...... 【在進(jìn)學(xué)校前】 In my understanding, if we refer to an ideal college life as a formal western dinner, then a high GPA, that is, Grade Point Average, should be the main course, while an active part in activities, together with associations, means the appetizer. Some romances, of course, play the role as desserts. They are the 3 key elements for an ideal college life. Those, however, are not what college life is all about. As we all know, college is wildly different from middle school. It connects not only adolescence to adulthood, but also the ivory tower to the real society. Therefore, the ideal college life is that I become matured both physically and mentally, and that I obtain qualified academic knowledge and get well prepared for society at the same time. Under this circumstance, I never expect my college life to be too ideal, or you can call it too perfect. It is not realistic to make all things on my own way, with everyone liking me, winning the first prize all the time, and so on. Of course, I’d like to lead a carefree life. However, this does little good to my future. What really helps is hardships like failure, betrayal, and unjust treatment. Only after experiencing those can I know what society is like, and what life is like. To conclude my speech, I wanna say, some positive experiences are surely part of the ideal college life. But, I should not forget about the negative sides. They are not less necessary.【大學(xué)生活的評(píng)價(jià)】 Our College-我們的大學(xué) Our college is situated in the northen suburbs. But the transportation is convenient and the environment is pleasing. A hill lies in the back of the college campus. Not far as-ay her. re the campus is a great lake, where we often go swimming on Sundays. There are fimr classroom buildings and five dining-halls on the campus. The classrooms are big and bright. And each of them is large enough for sixty students to study in. Behind the main classroom building stands the college library, where both the teachers and students are busy borrowing and returning books every day. I usually go there once a week for borrowing and returning books. Our college life is rich and interesting. On the one hand, we have many experienced teachers, sufficient books, scientific apparatus, and instruments to help our studies. On the other hand, we are encouraged to take part in many college activities such as seminars, parties, talks, sportsmeets, visiting factories, etc. Basketball and volleyball matches are held almost weekly. All in all, studying in our college is a great privilege, so students always remember their Alma Mater after their graduation. My First-Year College lifeWe will never forget our freshman year at college. In general it is a time filled with anticipation, some anxiety, and wonderful discoveries. College is much different than high school. You may decide to commute from your home to a local campus. Without doubt, the most dramatic freshman year is for those living away from home. What can we expect as we head off into the wonderful world of higher education? The first thing I notice is the workload. It is heavier and more intense than I ever experienced before. The major challenges of college work are large volume of reading, short deadlines, and “endless” writing. A related effect that can be brought on by the workload is doubt, frustration, and loneliness if possible. On some of those long, seemingly endless nights of studying and writing, it will be very natural for me to long for fine old days. Hang in there. These down periods will pass. I have made a lot of new friends. I am sure college friendships will be among the most satisfying and long-term in my life. It's always exciting to discover how wonderfully diverse college relationships can be. I am enjoying my newfound freedom. Stay up until dawn talking about my ideals and ambitions with my dorm's regular bull session buddies. Sleep in until the afternoon on a light class day. Explore the local town or suburbs with one or two of my new friends. I even start to think about my future. Going to college is as much about finding out who am I as it is about getting the degree. 【進(jìn)學(xué)校第一天】My First Year in College Many high school graduates wrongly assume that university life is totally free from worries. After a period of serious and solemn study in senior three, the hard beavers expect to take a break and develop some habits. However, many may find later that the situation may be beyond their anticipation. I've tried to convince the adults around that the image they have of my university life as a free and unrestrained one is some what misunderstanding. In reality, school life is so busy that I sometimes wonder if my energy is enough. About my first year in college, my life is mainly made up of two parts, study and practice. As a student, the main task is study. In order to gain a high GPA, I have to get used to the college life style and begin a new pursue in study. It is the learning method that shows off most of the differences between senior study and college study. ! have a roommate who goes out to have lessons in the morning and comes back in the evening after the self-study classroom is closed. The peers' behaviors make me feel under pressure. In university, one% view of life is integrally formed and strengthened. I begin to program my future plan and realize that study itself is an affair for me. The more courses I learn by heart, the more maturity I get. University education ensures students of better jobs. I usually reckon that time consuming on study is worthwhile as it bears such important events as occupation, career and responsibility. To some extent, study and practice are intertwined, and they begin from the very start of freshman year. Student Union enjoys almost complete acceptance. It is a place where one can get his ability trained, have his competence applied and make a lot of friends who share the same interests with him. But sometimes, social activities and practices are time consuming, what's more, the sense of responsibility also requires you to make effort to fulfill the task. No one starts in one's present position all along that it was what he or she wants to do. Sometimes, the chance will just lead you down some unforeseen trail only if you have a prepared mind. My first year in college is not relaxed, but all way along is full of curiosity and satisfaction.
