最常用的有兩種說法：profile picture和profile photo。

這里的 profile 就是“面部的側(cè)影，側(cè)面輪廓；簡介；形象”的意思。

例句：

His profile picture of WeChat is a cute puppy.

他的微信頭像是一只可愛的小狗。

Profile photo / picture多指個人的形象照片，所以這個頭像大多用的會是“本人照片”；但是想要使用任何你喜歡的頭像，比如風(fēng)景、小動物等等，英語里面還有另外一個單詞“avatar”，這個不是阿凡達(dá)嗎？但是這個單詞在牛津詞典里面的解釋是：

A picture of a person or an animal that represents a particular computer user, on a computer screen, especially in a computer game or on social media（社交媒體或電腦游戲中代表一個用戶的人物/動物圖片）所以，“avatar”這個單詞更加貼合“頭像”的含義。
