構(gòu)詞是語言的基本要素之一，在英語構(gòu)詞方面我們可以看到許多性別歧視的例子。最突出的例證莫過于history，它是由his和story構(gòu)成的，也就是說，歷史是男人的故事，沒有也不需要女人的參與。（1）以man結(jié)尾、含有man的復(fù)合詞及派生詞。這一類詞泛指男女兩性，但從表述效果來看，對于男女性別指代往往不是很清晰，甚至僅僅向讀者或聽眾傳遞男性形象。例如：①Manisthemostintelligentofallspecies.②Allmenshouldmaintaintheecologicbalance.這些句子容易誤導(dǎo)人們忽視女性的存在以及女性在歷史發(fā)展進程中的作用，可將其更改為：①Humankind/humanbeingisthemostintelligentofallspecies.②Allpeopleshouldmaintaintheecologicalbalance.或veryoneshouldmaintaintheecologicalbalance.在英語詞匯中，還有很多含有man的復(fù)合詞及派生詞，均帶有明顯的性別歧視色彩。這一類詞主要有man-kind、man-made、freshman、manhood、manly、toman、manhours、manpower等等。在實際應(yīng)用中，應(yīng)將其更改為humanbeings、synthetic、first-yearstudent、adulthood、strong、tooperate、workhours、workforce。（2）英語中有一些以-ess，ette，rix和enne等陰性詞綴結(jié)尾，如Actress、Authoress、Suffregatte、Usherette、Administratrix、aviatrix、Comedienne，他們往往含有微不足道、無足輕重或卑微低下的含義，因此要避免使用這一類詞綴，并可改變使用or，an，er，ist等無性別歧視的詞綴。（3）在含有man的英語短語中，我們也不難發(fā)現(xiàn)有很多帶有性別歧視色彩的，如beone'sownman、goodwilltoman、Jackofalltrades、Manoftheworld、Maninthestreet、Toaman等等，如果我們在使用這些短語是將其置換為beone'sownperson、goodwilltoall、personofalltrades、personoftheworld、personInthestreet、everyperson就顯得更為客觀和容易被接受了。
