英語簡史
盧恩語(Futhark)→古英語(即盎格魯-撒克遜語)(Old English、Anglo-Saxon)→英國英語(English)
即恩→盎→英的三個相似的有規(guī)律的音節(jié)的之間的相互變化。
古英語受低地日耳曼語影響很大，比如動詞，基本詞匯，發(fā)音，復(fù)合詞結(jié)構(gòu)，形態(tài)變化很復(fù)雜，但是與現(xiàn)代的標準德語還是有很大的區(qū)別。
現(xiàn)代英語并非起源或演變自羅曼語族亦或是法語，但是數(shù)萬現(xiàn)代英語詞匯，很大一部分來自法語，約5萬英語詞匯與法語接近甚至是完全相同，現(xiàn)代英語和多數(shù)現(xiàn)代歐洲語言都改用字母拼寫。
公元1066年，割據(jù)法蘭西王國西北部的諾曼底公爵威廉一世征服英格蘭王國，成為英格蘭國王，所有的英國貴族也都換成法國人，并且和法國本土的貴族通婚。諾曼征服的三百余年間，英格蘭王國的君主與貴族都講法語，教士們則習(xí)用拉丁語，中古英語。1500年左右，中古英語演變成為近代英語。
現(xiàn)代英語所使用的拼寫字母，也是完全借用了26個字母。所謂“英語字母”，就是古羅馬人在書寫時所使用的拼寫字母。英語開始以拉丁字母作為拼寫系統(tǒng)大約是在公元六世紀的盎格魯撒克遜時代。
當時的傳教士們?yōu)榱税旬數(shù)卣Z言記錄成文字而引進字母，他們所面臨的問題是當時的英語共有超過40種不同的音，而拉丁字母無法一一對應(yīng)，于是他們用增加字母、在字母上加變音符號、兩個字母連寫等方法來對應(yīng)不同的發(fā)音，之后慢慢形成了古英語用26個拉丁字母+&來拼寫并伴有一些拼寫規(guī)則的文字系統(tǒng)。
