它不但是史蒂芬·福斯特所著的最有名的歌曲之一，也是歷史上最有名和最流行的美國歌曲之一?！芭?，蘇珊娜”有時亦被視為兒歌。歌名中的'蘇珊娜'可能是史蒂芬·福斯特的姐姐，夏洛特·蘇珊娜·福斯特(Charlotte 'Susanna' Foster,1809-1829)，她在史蒂夫.福斯特三歲時病逝。
